The future of fitness (especially for us plus-sized peeps)

In this week’s blog I break down the future of fitness and give you my reasons why I think these changes will happen (and especially why it’s good news for us plus sized peeps).

Some of these predictions may take a while to happen. I think that like doctors used to recommend smoking and now we know how harmful it is, in the future we’ll see that some of the things we’ve been doing in the fitness industry have caused more harm than good.

Thankfully, one of the predictions is already happening.

So here are my predictions:

1. More and more fitness will happen online - this is happening already. Not only will it make exercise more convenient for many people, it will offer more privacy for people who feel uncomfortable in conventional fitness spaces
2. Fitness will become more compassionate - Yoga has been one of the fastest growing fitness “fads” for the past 10 years. It’s not a fitness fad, it is an established lifestyle that happens to have some movement attached to it. As more people study yoga to become instructors, the lessons of compassion and humility will hopefully flow through to the larger fitness community.
3. Fitness will move away from being so weight loss focused. This is the big one that needs to change. There is more and more evidence to show that deliberate weight loss can be more detrimental to health than being overweight or obese. However, regular exercise is shown to improve health at every size. Removing the weight-loss focus of exercise will have significantly improved health outcomes for the entire population!

Please watch the video and let me know what you think in the comments.
