3 life lessons I learned from these Drag Queens

You know that feeling when you’ve been waiting so long for something, it happens, and then it’s over… I guess it must be like post-wedding blues.

Well, that’s what I’m experiencing right now after heading to Perth and seeing Trixie & Katya Live.  I booked tickets for the best drag show in the world back in December and this week I finally saw two of my biggest (s)heroes in the flesh.  And they didn’t let me down…  Except for this post show comedown lol.

So let me back up a bit… if you don’t know who I mean when I say Trixie & Katya, they are two of the most famous drag queens on the planet.  They got their start from a little Emmy award winning show called RuPaul’s Drag Race and have since taken the queer world by storm and collected millions of queer allies like me along the way!

If you don’t watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, first of all, why not?  And secondly, it’s a reality show that combines Next Top Model with Project Runway with a little bit of Dr Phil.  That may not sound great, but it has been one of the MOST IMPORTANT elements on my own self-acceptance journey.  When you are exposed to the world of queer people and you see how much adversity and bullying they have put up with and how they have triumphed over adversity, it is pretty inspiring.  Add in a dash of body positivity, real talk about racism and a shit tonne of talent and you have show that spreads joy, unconditional love, and general positivity (except sometimes the fan base is a bit toxic).

Anyway… back to my post-drag-queen blues… I saw Trixie and Katya Live and they did not disappoint.  I also followed them on Instagram to see their impressions of my hometown Perth and got some insight into how they look after themselves when they are on tour.

So, in this week’s vlog I share the 3 life lessons that I received from spending time with these drag queens over the weekend (even though it was from a distance).  The biggest thing I learned (which is not in my vlog) is that true joy comes from being weird and wonderful and expressing yourself however you want (as this video shows perfectly!)

Check out my vlog below and tell me in the comments, do you watch RuPaul’s Drag Race?  Are you into the art of drag?  Or which celebrities sum up important life lessons for you?
