Self-Care Experiment #1: Legs Up the Wall
Verdict: 🌟 OBSESSED. Must Try!
Let’s get something out of the way: This is not one of those wellness blogs where I do everything perfectly in a matching linen set while sipping homemade adaptogenic tea.
I’m not here to tell you that lying on the floor for 6 minutes will heal your inner child and solve perimenopause. But I am here to try some self-care stuff out, tell you how it actually goes, and probably overshare along the way.
Some of these self-care experiments might be helpful. Some will probably be a bit inappropriate, a bit silly, or just flat-out weird. But Legs Up the Wall? This one was a win. A big one.
Day 1 – A rough start (but a surprising win)
I’ll be honest: I let out a big sigh before I even started. The 24 hours leading up to that moment had been really rough—but also really beautiful. I’d received so much support from friends and my community after a hard day. I was exhausted and emotionally full, and honestly? I didn’t feel like doing anything, let alone trying to tick off a self-care task.
But I remembered why I was doing this. So I found a Legs Up the Wall meditation on Insight Timer, lay on my bed, and put my legs up against my bedhead (because #SmallHouseLife and no clear wall space!).
👉 Here’s the meditation I used.
It ended up being some of the best six minutes of my day. Just a few minutes of stillness, breath, and lying with my legs up helped me feel held and reset. I couldn’t wait to do it again.
Day 2 – Grounded and clear
I felt surprisingly grounded the next day. Like I was able to make some solid decisions and really back myself.
Did Legs Up the Wall give me that clarity? Maybe. Was it worth it? Definitely.
Although… I did realise I really need better equipment. My house is tiny and full of furniture, so I’ve been improvising on the bed using my bedhead. Not ideal—but it worked.
Day 3 – Comfy, calm(ish), and Ugg-booted
I wore my Ugg boots this time—excellent choice because it was a buffer against the hard steel of my bedhead. I was hoping putting my legs up the wall would help with some indigestion (spoiler: it didn’t), but I did feel calm(ish), even after a particularly hard day. This was the first time I realised it wasn’t just the position—it was the ritual of it. The pause. The choosing myself.
Day 4 – Annoying meditation, sweet snuggles
Too hot for Ugg boots = not as comfy. Also chose a meditation that, frankly, annoyed me. But I had the dog snuggled up with me, and honestly… that made up for it.
I found myself thinking, “I can’t wait to do this tomorrow”. That little craving? That anticipation? That’s when I knew this was working. This wasn’t a task. It was becoming something I actually wanted to do.
Days 5–7 – The Ritual Settles In
By the end of the week, Legs Up the Wall had gone from "ugh, one more thing to do" to "oooh, I get to do that again."
It became a soothing nightly ritual—something my body and brain began to look forward to. And yes: my sleep definitely improved. Not in a dramatic, miracle-cure kind of way, but enough that I noticed myself falling asleep faster and staying asleep longer.

Final Verdict: 🌟 OBSESSED. Must Try!
This tiny habit—just a few minutes of putting my legs up and breathing—helped me feel more grounded, more aware, and more like myself.
No, it didn’t fix everything. But it helped me pause. And that’s enough.
