Episode 3 - I can’t do #yogaeverydamnday
There is a popular hashtag on social media - #yogaeverydamnday. It can illicit a lot of guilt because what if you can't do yoga every day? What if you're busy, or have an injury or you've never tried yoga so it seems impossible to do it every single day...
This is where the SYSTEM of yoga comes in. It's not just about a physical practice. There are 8 elements to yoga and asana (the poses) are just one part.
In this episode I'll teach a little about Pantanjali's 8 Limbs of Yoga and focus on the first one - the Yamas.
(Please forgive my Sanskrit pronunciation. I am working on it #everydamnday)
The 8 limbs of yoga are:
Yama (ethical behaviours)
Niyama (personal practices)
Asana (physical poses)
Pranayama (breathing techniques)
Pratyahara (sense withdrawal)
Dharana (focused concentration)
Dhyana (meditation)
Samadhi (bliss, enlightenment)
In this episode I'll delve a little deeper into the Yamas.
Ahmisa (non-harming)
Satya (truthfulness)
Asteya (non-stealing)
Brahmacharya (right use of energy)
Aparigraha (non-greed, non-hoarding)
If you'd like to practice some asana while you listen to this episode, follow the video below.
What do you think of the yamas? Do you think you can practice #yogaeverydamnday? Let me know in the comments.
